Music Therapy

In September 2023, CAP acquired Connecting Thru Music, a nonprofit committed to supporting the growth of music therapy in Northeast Florida. Now, in partnership with UpBeat Music Therapy (UBMT), CAP is proud to expand its programs to include music therapy.

Music therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized non-musical goals to support learning and development. CAP now offers in-school and afterschool programs for children and young adults with disabilities, led by UBMT’s board-certified music therapists.

UBMT’s music therapists use research-based techniques that are student-centered to motivate and engage students during each session. They collaborate closely with the teachers and administrators at each site to create measurable goals that address the needs of the students. Through building connections and creating a safe environment, music therapists are able to work on foundation skills of learning, communication, and social, emotional, and motor needs of the students. Students are able to learn and engage in music naturally during each session.

CAP’s music therapy programs are supported in part by private funding and the Kids Hope Alliance
