12 Feb Success Story – Connecting Thru Music
“SBDC has a professional and customer-oriented program which systematically consults with a new business owner to elicit new skills, insights, products and confidence. Working with Blake allowed me to move successfully into the competitive non-profit sector with a well-polished plan and product. Having been out of the work force for over 12 years while raising my four children, I was hesitant, but Blake’s coaching inspired confidence, skills and success!
Karen Demuth is the Founder and Executive Director of the non-profit Connecting Thru Music (CTM). Its mission is to provide music therapy and other music experience to facilitate and enrich the physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs of students with special needs at elementary schools in Duval County.
While receiving consulting from the Florida SBDC at UNF, the CTM program has received several community donations including from the Delores Barr Weaver Fund. CTM has recently grown to a second school in Jacksonville and is looking to hire and bring a full-time music therapist to Jacksonville. Now, Karen is aiming to have a music therapy program in 10 Duval County schools by 2025.
Karen came into the SBDC looking for assistance with website creation and marketing. Karen worked with certified consultant Blake Stockton to help plan out a website specifically for her non-profit. Blake taught Karen how to navigate the Weebly platform and make her own edits. Blake and Karen also worked together to hire freelancers through Fiverr for her website and in-person marketing materials.
